Product Description

Jotun Barrier Plus is a 2 pack polyamine cured zinc rich epoxy coating, benefiting from high solids. Suitable for CX environments, and can be applied down to 0°C surface temperature. NORSOK approved.

Best Uses

Jotun Barrier Plus is a two component polyamine cured zinc rich epoxy coating, benefiting from high solids, and contains very high zinc dust. Conforms to the compositional requirements of SSPC paint 20, level 2 and ISO 12944/ISO 20340. Jotun Barrier Plus provides excellent corrosion protection as part of a complete coating system. To be used as primer in atmospheric environments. Suitable for carbon steel, repair of inorganic zinc silicate coating and damaged galvanised steel substrates. It can be applied down to 0 °C surface temperature. This product complies with ASTM D520 type II zinc dust.

Jotun Barrier Plus is suitable for application to structural steel and piping exposed in corrosivity categories up to CX (ISO 12944-2). Recommended for offshore environments, refineries, power plants, bridges, buildings, mining equipment and general structural steel. Specially designed as a primer for coating systems where extended durability is required. Product testing shows superior performance in adhesion/cohesion and electrical conductivity when compared to traditional zinc rich epoxy coatings.

Application

To secure lasting adhesion to the subsequent product, all surfaces shall be clean, dry and free from any contamination. Prepare carbon steel to Sa 2/5/ Prepare shop primed steel via sweep blasting or alternatively blasted to Sa 2 (ISO 8501-1) of at least 70% of the surface. Optimum performance, including adhesion, corrosion protection, heat resistance and chemical resistance, is achieved with recommended surface preparation.

The product can be applied by airless spray. Brush is recommended for stripe coating and small areas. Care must be taken to achieve the specified dry film thickness. See Application Guide for full details.
