Product Description

Tensid PROSOCO Vanatrol is a concentrated acidic cleaner for new masonry surfaces that are subject to vanadium, manganese and other metallic stains.

Best Uses

Tensid PROSOCO Vanatrol is suitable for use on grey, brown, white and most light coloured brick, natural and cast stone.

This acidic brick cleaner works by clinging to the masonry surface and softening excess mortar and job dirt.

  • Slow drying so it rinses clean without streaking
  • Controls green vanadium and brown manganese staining on colour sensitive brick and tile
  • Safe for use on most unpolished natural stone or cast stone surfaces

Application

Pretesting
Always test before overall application to ensure suitability and desired results. Test each type of masonry and stain. Apply test area according to the following application procedures. Allow area to dry for 3 to 7 days before inspection and approval. Make the test panel available for comparison throughout the cleaning project.

Dilutions
Always pour cold water into empty bucket first, then carefully add Vanatrol. Never use hot water. Handle in polyethylene or rubber buckets only. Acidic materials and fumes will attack metal. The following are recommended dilutions. Adjust dilution rate based on tests.

  • Face brick, natural or man made limestone, structural tile (unglazed), precast, exposed aggregate – 6 parts water to 1 part concentrate
  • Sandstone, very porous stone – 8 parts water to 1 part concentrate
  • Structural tile (glazed), ceramic tile (glazed), ceramic brick – 10 parts water to 1 part concentrate

Application Instructions - Exterior

  1. Thoroughly saturate a large portion of the masonry surface
  2. Using a dense, soft fibre, masonry brush or low compression sprayer, apply diluted solution freely
  3. Allow cleaning solutions to remain on the surface for approximately 5 minutes, depending upon absorption rate of masonry and drying conditions. Do not allow cleaner to dry into the masonry because this may leave a residue and cause staining
  4. Reapply cleaning solutions and scrape off heavy build up of excess mortar using a wooden scraper or piece of brick. Take care to avoid damaging the masonry surface. Do not use metal scrapers, which may contribute to metallic staining. NOTE: avoid more than one reapplication over the same area. Repeated applications may cause a white detergent to be deposited on the masonry surface. If mortar deposits are not softened after initial application, allow the solutions to remain on the wall for a longer period of time, making sure the cleaner does not dry into the masonry.
  5. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water, removing all cleaning compound, free sand, loose material and debris. Thorough rinsing is extremely important to ensure that all residues are removed from the porous masonry. NOTE: To avoid streaking, keep adjacent and lower wall surfaces wet and rinsed free of cleaning residues.

On new construction, masonry cleaning should be done before installation of flooring, metal fixtures and all other non masonry materials. If such materials are already in place, protect with polyethylene and maintain sufficient ventilation to avoid build up of potentially damaging fumes.

Application Information - Interior

Following the cleaning procedure outlined for exterior surfaces. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water using sponge or soft fibred brush. If conditions do not allow sufficient water for complete rinsing, use a neutralising rinse, following this procedure:

  1. Rinse first with fresh, clean water
  2. Apply neutralising rinse of 57 grams of baking soda to 3.8 litres of water. Saturate thoroughly and allow neutralising solutions to dwell on the surface for 3 to 5 minutes
  3. Apply a final rinse of fresh, clean water
